Sunday Tradition
David Williams

David Williams was born in Douglasville, GA. In 1976, David and his family moved to Cullman, AL to live on the family farm. While working on the farm, David could hear the sounds of bluegrass drifting through the valley. After the daily chores, David and his dad would go to the house of Alfred Jones to hear Alabama Grass, which consisted of Alfred, Ms. Belle Terry, and Roger Jones. David was told by the group if he could learn how to play the bass, he could join the band. After three weeks, David joined the band.
In February of 1981, David’s family moved back to Georgia. David stayed for a few months but eventually moved back to Cullman to live with an aunt so he could continue to play music with Alabama Grass. “In order to make a show with Alabama Grass in Birmingham, AL, I took off on my bicycle from Douglasville. I peddled that thing for about 110 miles. When I got 25 miles from the show, my bike broke. Luckily, my Dad found me and got me to the show.” David has played with several groups throughout the years. These include The Campbell Trio, The Country Edition, Sunday Drive, and Full Circle.

In 1985, David married the love of his life, Shelia Harper. They have been married for almost 25 years and have two children: Michael is 16 and Tyler is 10. David was saved during a revival service at the age of seventeen. Currently, David and his family attend Union Hill FCM in Arab, AL. While at church, Sheila plays piano and organ, while David fills in on bass from time to time. David is the General Manager of Alabama Flag and Banner in Huntsville. “My goal is to spread the word of Jesus through song. I feel very blessed to be a part of Sunday Tradition.”
